Characterizing spontaneous irregular behavior in coupled map lattices

چکیده
Two-dimensional coupled map lattices display, in a specific parameter range, a stable phase (quasi-) periodic in both space and time. With small changes to the model parameters, this stable phase develops spontaneous eruptions of nonperiodic behavior. Although this behavior itself appears irregular, it can be characterized in a systematic fashion. In particular, parameter-independent features of the spontaneous eruptions may allow useful empirical characterizations of other phenomena that are intrinsically hard to predict and reproduce. Specific features of the distributions of lifetimes and emergence rates of irregular states display such parameter-independent properties. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Weak Synchronization of Chaotic Coupled Map Lattices
Phase synchronized states can emerge in the collective behavior of an ensemble of chaotic coupled map lattices, due to a mean field interaction. This type of interaction is responsible for synchronized chaotic global activity of the lattices, while the local activity of each map remains unsynchronized. The resulting collective dynamics is called “weak synchronization.” The transition to such a ...
متن کاملPhase Clustering and Collective Behaviors in Globally Coupled Map Lattices due to mean Field Effects
We describe the emergence of phase clustering and collective behaviors in an ensemble of chaotic coupled map lattices, due to a mean field interaction. This kind of interaction is responsible for the appearence of a collective state, wherein the mean field evolution of each lattice undergoes a periodic behavior in space. We analyze the transition to such a state in an ensemble of one-dimensiona...
متن کاملStabilization of Causally and Non–Causally Coupled Map Lattices
Two-dimensional coupled map lattices have global stability properties that depend on the coupling between individual maps and their neighborhood. The action of the neighborhood on individual maps can be implemented in terms of “causal” coupling (to spatially distant past states) or “non-causal” coupling (to spatially distant simultaneous states). In this contribution we show that globally stabl...
متن کاملSpatially coherent states in fractally coupled map lattices.
We study coupled map lattices with a scaling form of connectivity and show that the dynamics of these systems exhibit a transition from spatial disorder to spatially uniform, temporal chaos as the scaling is varied. We numerically investigate the eigenvalue spectrum of the random matrix characterizing fluctuations from spatial uniformity, and find that the spectrum is real, bounded, and has a g...
متن کاملInformation flow and nontrivial collective behavior in chaotic-coupled-map lattices.
This work quantitatively demonstrates a nontrivial collective behavior, which depends on the coupling strength in chaotic-coupled-map lattices, using the interdependence measure emerging from a local unit. The amount of information flow which flows from the instantaneous mean field to a local map has been investigated using the time-delayed mutual information. Interestingly, the collective syst...
